Welcome!
I'm glad you're here! We're going to have lots of fun while learning great things!

I'm Mrs. Janet H. Thompson - Your Algebra I Teacher!
<---That's me in the back of this photo. Matt is my awesome husband, and my four cool and crazy kids are Will (6th Grade at Gentry), Abby (8th Grade at Gentry), Luke (5th Grade at Midway Heights) and Kate (10th Grade at Rock Bridge).
I love mathematics! Math is lots of fun, it's easy, and we use it all the time. I am looking forward to teaching you this year...and to learning from you as well. Everyone has something to offer. I can't wait to tap into what YOU bring to our classroom!

FLIPPED OUT! I've "flipped" my classroom, and am loving it! To learn more about what a flipped classroom means, see this video from PBS Television:
My email address is [email protected] and my cell phone number is 806-333-8820, if you or your parents or guardians need to contact me for any reason. I will use this website to put up supplementary videos, assignments, worksheets and weekly plans. If you miss class, you can come here to find out what you missed and to get your make-up work.
Please sign up for "Remind" text reminders from my classroom. Simply text @a149 to 81010 to opt in.
Please, if you are having any trouble with any concept, address the issue right away. I encourage lots of questions -- at the very time they pop into your head. If you do not understand a concept, just let me know. Each person learns in a unique way. Help me to help you find what works for you!

If you struggle with math, please do not despair! We live in an awesome age of technology which allows for practice or additional assistance in any area, any time! (Did you know that the entire first-year Physics Course from MIT is available, for free! - online?!)
I can help you, but you can help yourself by going to http://khanacademy.org, http://www.math-aids.com, or a host of other websites that will allow for your style of learning and/or practice.
Sal Khan will teach you (in video form) any concept you need to be taught or re-taught. Math Aids will create practice worksheets for you (along with answer keys) so that you can practice whatever it is that you need practice in. If you find another website that YOU like, let me know!

I am usually available for consultation or additional help during my planning and conference periods (although the Planning Period is used for shared planning with other staff twice a month). I also make myself available during lunch and from 8:20 until school starts in the morning. I LOVE one-on-one time with my students (and parents/guardians!), and strongly encourage you to take advantage of these times.
